CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) – Cranston Police were called to the scene of a rowdy house party early Sunday morning, where a young adult male was shot in the foot.
Colonel Michael Winquist of the Cranston Police Department says police responded to 74 Garden street around 2:30a.m. after neighbors called saying they heard gun shots in the area.
Officers found shell casings at the corner of Garden and Pond streets upon their arrival.
Interviews with guests at the Garden street party didn’t lead to any information about the shooting, but shortly after 3a.m. police got a call that a gunshot victim arrived at Rhode Island Hospital.
Police interviewed a 21-year-old male at the hospital who said he was leaving the party when a dark-colored SUV, possibly with an African American male in the passenger seat, drove up to him, rolled down the car window, and started shooting.
Additional witnesses tell police there was an argument between two cars in the same area before the shooting
The victim was hit in the foot, and taken by friends to the hospital.
The victim told police he had no idea why he would’ve been targeted, or if he was the target of the shooting at all.
Later on Sunday, Detectives found two houses on Garden street which had been hit with bullets, presumably related to the prior evening’s shooting.
Col. Winquist tells Eyewitness News, detectives are tracking down a number of leads brought to the police station and the investigation is still very active.
