Officials: Man dies in Woonsocket police custody

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — State and local authorities are investigating after a man collapsed and died while in police custody.

According to police, 46-year-old Dondi Willis collapsed inside the police station on Monday morning while waiting to be taken to court. Police said he was pronounced dead at Landmark Medical Center.

Eyewitness News has learned an autopsy has been completed and the medical examiner is currently awaiting toxicology results.

Members of the Rhode Island State Police and the Attorney General’s office are now investigating – which is standard protocol.
