NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A woman found dead during a fire at her New Bedford home has been identified as investigators continue searching for the cause.

The state medical examiner’s office identified the woman as Lisa Ann Mayo, 51, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.

Crews responded around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, to a fire at 25 Sycamore St. and arrived to find flames coming from the back of the home and spreading to the roof. Upon entering the home, firefighters said they found Mayo’s body on the floor.

It’s unclear at this time if Mayo died as a result of the fire but the DA’s office said her death does not appear suspicious.

No one else was injured in the fire.
