BOSTON (WPRI) — The formal sentencing for convicted marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is set for June 24 at 9:30 a.m. in Boston, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Massachusetts.
It has been nearly two weeks since Tsarnaev learned that a jury would impose the death penalty upon him.
The panel of 12 men and women found Tsarnaev guilty last month of placing a pressure cooker bomb at the finish line on April 15, 2013 – killing three people and injuring more than 260 others.
Officials said at least 20 victims of the attack have asked to speak at the sentencing hearing — Tsarnaev will also have the change to speak if he chooses.
