TEMPLETON, Mass. (WPRI) — All lanes of Route 2 in Templeton were shut down for a period of time Thursday, but it had nothing to do with roadwork or a crash.
Massachusetts State Police tweeted Thursday morning that they would be closing a portion of the highway to allow environmental officers to safely relocate a bear family whose den was located in the median.
Police said the mother bear had to be tranquilized before she and her cubs could be moved to their new home in a nearby state forest.
Once the bears were removed, Route 2 was reopened. Police thanked everyone for their patience.
