NEW BEDFORD, MA (WPRI) – Ruth, the 58-year-old Asian Elephant at New Bedford’s Buttonwood Park Zoo, is recovering slowly but surely, the zoo said.

The last time Buttonwood Park Zoo updated the community on the elephant’s condition, she was in stable but guarded condition. On Thursday, the zoo posted on its Facebook page that Ruth, the third oldest Asian elephant living in the United States, is recovering from intestinal issues and that her digestive system is functioning more regularly.

Buttonwood Park Zoo says they will continue to monitor Ruth’s health.
