New Bedford police investigating a homicide

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) – A homicide investigation is underway after a man was shot to death in New Bedford Saturday night.

According to a spokesman for Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, New Bedford police received a 911 call around 11 p.m. Saturday about an unresponsive man in the parking lot of Brooklawn Park.

Police officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound; he was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

The victim has been identified as 66 year-old Donald DePina of New Bedford.

Investigators are working the case and declined to release any further information.
