New Bedford building a total loss after suspicious fire

NEW BEDFORD, Mass (WPRI) — Fire crews responded to a house fire early Saturday morning which they’re now saying is suspicious.

It was reported at about 1:30 a.m. at 91 Adams Street, and firefighters called two alarms.

Fire officials said there was only one person home at the time, and that resident got out unhurt. One of the other apartments in the building was going to be occupied starting next month, but wasn’t at the time of the fire. The home appears to be a total loss, with significant damage to the rear of the building.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but fire officials said that it does appear suspicious. Posters asking for information about the fire were placed on the building Saturday morning.
