PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A new initiative called Solarwise Rhode Island aims to make it easier to go green in Rhode Island.
National Grid, partnered with EnergySage, is looking to make the process of installing solar panels less daunting with the creation of a new website.
By registering, residents and businesses can have an energy assessment done to see if they qualify for photovoltaics, the panels that are installed on buildings.
The site then allows users to compare vendors and installers to find the best deal.
“If you really care about the environment, if you are really interested in cutting down the amount of emissions that are going into the atmosphere from fossil fuel power generating stations, it’s something that you should seriously think about,” said National Grid Spokesman David Graves.
Graves promises the company will buy back any excess energy created from the panels. He said the panels cut energy costs as well.
National Grid is hoping the website will increase the number of solar-powered buildings in the state.
The website is expected to be online within the next few months. In the meantime, visit National Grid’s website for more information on energy efficiency programs.
