MSP: One fatality in fiery Lakeville crash


LAKEVILLE, Mass. (WPRI) – Massachusetts State Police are investigating a rollover crash in Lakeville which resulted in one fatality.

The crash happened just after 6 p.m. on route 140 northbound, north of exit nine on Saturday night.

The driver, traveling in a 2015 Ford Transit van, lost control of his vehicle, causing it to rollover and crash.

Eyewitness News has learned roughly a dozen good Samaritans stopped at the scene and tried to save the driver, who was trapped inside the car as it caught fire.

The driver was brought to Morton Hospital where he was pronounced dead. State Police identified him Sunday morning as 61 year-old Frederick Maxfield of East Freetown.

This crash remains under investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section. Lakeville Fire and EMS, as well as the Freetown Police Department, are also assisting in this investigation.
