WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — State police are investigating after one motorcyclist was killed and two other motorcyclists were injured in an accident on I-95 late Saturday night.

The accident happened around 10:45 p.m. when two motorcyclists collided with an SUV near the I-295 North ramp in Warwick.

Investigators say the operator of the first motorcycle, identified as 34-year-old Dervi Pena of Providence, was thrown from his motorcycle upon impact. He was transported to Kent Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The operator of the second motorcycle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A third motorcycle crashed when the operator tried to avoid the initial collision. He also was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt.

Police are still looking into whether any of the operators were wearing helmets. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
