NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — New Bedford Police arrested a man and a woman Monday night after a drug investigation led to the discovery of an unsecured gun in the same apartment as three children.
Members of the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau went to an apartment on Shawmut Avenue with a search warrant after an investigation into drug dealing there. Inside, they discovered heroin, Percocet, $1,955 in cash, and digital scales and packaging materials that officers said indicated drug sales.
In a kitchen closet, police found a Glock 9mm handgun, unsecured, and loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition.
The children in the apartment were aged 9, 10 and 12. Their mother, Damaris Carrasquillo, 32, and a man named Luis Miguel Lopez, 29, were set to be arraigned Tuesday on various firearms and drug related charges, police said.
