PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Christmas is a little more than two weeks away, which means there is still time to add a toy to your shopping list – to donate to Toys For Tots.WPRI 12, FOX Providence and The Rhode Show are proud sponsors of the Marine Toys For Tots campaign.

Thursday, the U.S. Marines stopped by our Eyewitness studios in East Providence to pick up the toys that have been collected so far.

Piles and piles of toys were picked up for kids who need them.

“It’s a big task,” said Sgt. Michael Guzik of the U.S. Marines. “I really feel that I owe the people of the state of Rhode Island everything I can give to make it a successful year.”

Eyewitness News Reporter Steve Nielsen and Consumer Reporter Susan Hogan joined other members of the news team to help load the toys into the truck Thursday.

The toys will be distributed to kids across the state starting next week.

So far, the Marines say 80,000 toys in the state have been donated to Toys For Tots.

Organizers say they hope to add another 20,000 by Christmas morning to make the day magical for the 40,000 kids in the state who will be receiving the toys.

Toys can still be donated at the Eyewitness News studios, located at 25 Catamore Boulevard in East Providence – and for every toy donated this year, Hasbro will donate a toy, too.

Toys can also be dropped off at any Cardi’s furniture location.
