Man killed in overnight crash in Attleboro after hitting tow truck

News

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — A 26-year-old man was killed after crashing into a tow truck in Attleboro early Sunday morning.

Investigators say around 2 a.m., an Attleboro Police officer was helping with a disabled vehicle on I-95 South just before exit 1. The officer then called for a tow truck to remove the vehicle.

The tow truck arrived and parked in the break down lane to help assist, when it was struck by a vehicle from behind. The driver of the tow truck was not in the vehicle at the time.

Troopers from the Foxboro State Police Barracks were called after the crash. When they arrived, they found the operator of the vehicle, identified as 26-year-old Michael Avelar of Stoughton, deceased at the scene.

Right now, the cause of the crash is still under investigation. No one else was injured at the scene.
