NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — A man charged with assaulting a teacher who tried to block him from forcing his way into the gym at Portsmouth High School last year has pleaded no contest.
Marcus Schlip, 23, was sentenced to three years of probation for assault of a school teacher and disorderly conduct.
Police say Schlip tried to enter the gym last January. They say he punched and kicked a gym teacher, a 27-year-old woman, when she denied him entry and told him to go to the main office.
Students were in the gym but not involved in the altercation.
Police also found a military-style knife with a 7-inch blade in Schlip’s bag, but weapons-related charges were dismissed.
