LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man was arrested and charged after police said he robbed an elderly woman outside Twin River Casino on Easter Sunday.

According to police, the 80-year-old woman was exiting her vehicle in the casino’s parking lot at about 4 p.m. when a man ripped her purse away and took off in a silver Jeep Liberty.

Twin River Security and Lincoln Police and Fire responded to the scene and treated the woman for minor injuries.

Detectives circulated surveillance footage from the parking lot, and Department of Corrections employees identified the suspect as Paul Winiarski. A warrant was put out for his arrest, and Winiarski was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Winiarski, 49, was arraigned Thursday on a felony charge of first-degree robbery.
