PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – A man was robbed at knifepoint Friday night in Pawtucket.

According to police, a man was outside a liquor store at 225 Barton Street around 10:30 p.m. and talking on his cell phone when he was attacked from behind. The suspect cut the victim’s wrist with a knife and took the phone before fleeing.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

It’s the latest incident in a string of violence this week in Pawtucket; Thursday night a man was shot at the intersection of Jefferson and West Avenues, and another man was stabbed several times on Lonsdale avenue.

The city is adding extra police patrols this weekend to try to stop the violence, which Chief Paul King said Friday night will include undercover officers.

None of the recent incidents have been fatal.
