Man accused of driving drunk, hitting police officer arraigned

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A Warwick man that has been accused of drunk driving and hitting a police officer has been released on personal recognizance Tuesday.

Thomas Horne, 64, is now charged with driving to endanger resulting in personal injury and driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury.

Horne is accused of hitting a police officer who was directing traffic on Warwick Avenue on July 11, around 9 pm.

Investigators said Horne cut the turn short and was driving in the direction of oncoming traffic when the accident occurred.

According to police, the officer was treated for minor injuries.

Horne will be back in court in September.
