Local students make contact with International Space Station

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) – Students at one local school got a very cool opportunity Friday to communicate with the International Space Station.

Students gathered at the All Saints Steam Academy in Middletown and spoke with astronaut Jeff Williams, a graduate of the local Newport Naval War College.

Communication with the ISS came via the HAM radio.

Students had the opportunity to ask Williams questions, like one student who was curious about the tight quarters on the ISS.

Williams responded that he “doesn’t usually feel claustrophobic. Over.”

Students from the All Saints Steam Academy were one of only six schools in the country who had the opportunity to take part in this educational program.
