Warwick man dies weeks after he was hit by van

West Bay

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A Warwick man has died more than a month after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing Post Road.

According to city police, Stephen Lonardo was walking in an unlit portion of the roadway when he was struck by a minivan around 7 p.m. on Feb. 8.

Lonardo, 63, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where he perished on Tuesday. Police said the state medical examiner’s office is performing an autopsy to determine the exact cause of his death.

No charges have been filed in the case, according to police. They said the driver and several eyewitnesses stopped and called 911 immediately following the crash, and neither speed nor alcohol were factors.
