WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - A man was hospitalized after firefighters rescued him from a burning home Thursday night.
East Greenwich firefighters, who were the first to arrive, told Eyewitness News that a passerby reported the fire at about 7:15 p.m. in the area of 5500 Post Road. Warwick firefighters also responded as the location, which is on the line between the two communities, ended up being in Warwick.
Strong aggressive interior work by our crews arriving first on scene tonight. 2 victims rescued 1 human and 1 dog.The fire was on the EG/War line & actually ended up being in the City of Warwick, but firefighters don't know lines or boundaries when it comes to saving a life.— IAFF Local 3328 (@IAFFLocal3328) October 12, 2018
The resident was found in one of the home's bedrooms and was taken to Kent Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. He's expected to recover. Firefighters also revived a dog with a pet-sized oxygen mask and took it to an animal hospital.
The damage to the home wasn't extensive, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
