Shoppers face bitter cold for Black Friday shopping

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Frigid temperatures didn’t stop shoppers from bundling up and lining up outside of stores across Southern New England to take advantage of blockbuster deals this Black Friday.

It was a busy Friday morning at the Warwick Mall with shoppers arriving as early as midnight, lining up outside the front entrance.

One group of relatives shopping together wore shirts that red “Black Friday Squad,” and shopped for hours despite their lack of sleep.

“Oh there’s no naps,” said one member of the group, Maureen Leporacci. “Team no sleep!” Black Friday Shopping Database »

The group said they started making a shopping plan after Thanksgiving dinner, by spreading out shopping flyers on their kitchen table. The group then plotted out where they would find the best deals.

Donna Silva said she and several family members have a tradition of shopping during the day Friday.

“Our strategy was to be just very focused, we have a list of people that we wanted to buy for and that’s what we did, we went from the list and went shopping for those people,” Silva explained. “We come every year, it’s a tradition, we have breakfast, prior to coming shopping then we go out.”
