Police continue to search for an 81-year-old Coventry man after he was reported missing Wednesday.

According to West Greenwich police, Frank Bergheimer’s car was found abandoned at a park-and-ride on New London Turnpike with the keys still in the ignition. Police said a note was left inside the car that read, “I’ll be back.”

Bergheimer was last seen wearing a blue windbreaker and a baseball hat Wednesday morning.

Police said they have yet to come across any successful leads.

“We have had leads from the Silver Alert, but those leads that we checked have not been truthful,” West Greenwich Police Chief Richard Ramsay said.

Ramsay said the Rhode Island State Police are assisting in the search. Police have dispatched drones, helicopters and K-9 units within a three-mile radius of where Bergheimer’s car was found since he was on foot when he left.

“It’s been over 48 hours now since he was last seen, so obviously time is not really on our side,” Ramsay added. “But we are doing everything we can.”

Ramsay said as of right now, they will continue searching for Bergheimer and have no immediate plans to call off the search. He also said that while Bergheimer’s family is distraught, they have been out with police every day to assist in the search.

Anyone with information on Bergheimer’s whereabouts should contact West Greenwich police at (401) 397-7191.
