WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man died Monday after suffering a medical condition while swimming at Oakland Beach, according to Warwick police.

The man was identified Tuesday as Jose Bolivar, 68, once his family had been notified.

Police say the call came in just before 7:30 p.m. and before first responders arrived, witnesses had pulled Bolivar from the water and were performing live-saving measures.

Bolivar was taken to Kent Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
