COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after one person was killed and another was gravely injured in a shooting in Coventry Tuesday afternoon.
Officers rushed to a home on Mulberry Court in Red Oak Estates around 2:45 p.m. for reports of an “accidental shooting,” according to Coventry Police Chief Frederick Heise.
Upon arrival, police said they found two adults. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Heise stopped short of identifying the victims, but one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, told 12 News a married couple lived in the home.
“We’ve been friends with them for the 35 years that we’ve lived here,” the neighbor said. “Our kids played soccer together.”
“Just a really nice, quiet family,” she continued. “You see them in passing, you know, ‘Hi, how are you?’ Always just friendly people. It just kind of came as a shock.”
It’s unclear what led up to the shooting, but Heise said there is no threat to the public.
