WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital after a crash Sunday night in Warwick.

The crash happened at the intersection of West Shore Road and Main Avenue, which was closed for several hours. Police set up a detour to divert traffic through the nearby neighborhood.

Police said the rider was a man who was traveling east on Main Avenue and attempted to make a left turn onto West Shore Road. He lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle.

Responders found the motorcyclist unconscious with a serious head injury. The man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to police. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he remains in serious condition.

It’s unclear at this time if any other vehicles were involved. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
