West Bay

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have arrested a man after he fled the scene of a fiery crash in Cranston Thursday evening.

According to the Cranston Police Department, the man was driving a red Jeep with three female passengers inside when he crashed into another vehicle near Laurel Hill Avenue.

The Jeep then burst into flames.

Police said the man got out of the Jeep and fled the scene on foot before being arrested by officers on Franklin Avenue. He told police he lost consciousness briefly and does not remember the crash.

The driver and his three passengers were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It’s unclear if the occupants of the other vehicle were injured in the crash.

Police said the man had been driving erratically prior to the crash and will be charged with reckless driving, though more charges could be pending.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
