Cranston officials investigating house fire

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Firefighters are investigating the cause of a basement fire that damaged a Cranston home late Sunday morning.

Crews were called 85 Westwood Avenue around 11:30 a.m. and found heavy smoke and fire in the basement.

According to Battalion Chief James Warren, the flames were brought under control quickly.

The homeowner and two dogs were able to leave the house safely.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
