West Bay

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A Warwick man is facing charges, including driving under the influence, after crashing into his neighbor’s home late Tuesday night, according to police.

Police say Joseph Bennett, 62, was trying to back his car into his driveway on Columbia Avenue around 11 p.m. when he hit a tree, then accelerated forward across the road crashing into the neighbor’s house.

The car went through the house causing significant damage, police said. There were people home at the time of the crash but no one was injured.

Bennett was transported to the hospital to take a blood test but refused, police said.

He has been charged with DUI (BAC unknown), refusal, and reckless driving.

Bennett is due in court on Oct. 26 at Kent County Superior Court.
