WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a 16-year-old girl was struck by a car in Warwick early Wednesday morning.

Police say the teen was crossing Buttonwoods Avenue around 6:45 a.m. to make it to her school bus stop when she was struck by an SUV.

She was taken to the hospital with a head injury, where police say she is conscious and undergoing treatment.

The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No citations have been issued and officials said speed/alcohol are not factors.

In an email to families, Warwick Public Schools said the victim was a high school student and the district is communicating with her family and police.

“Please join us in offering your positive thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery,” the district wrote.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Warwick Police Traffic Unit at (401) 468-4200.
