WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) — After a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle over the weekend, surveillance video shared by Westerly police Monday morning shows a truck officers think may have been involved.
The bicyclist was on Canal Street about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when police believe a vehicle struck the rider then drove off. Rescue crews rushed the bicyclist to a hospital.
As of Monday morning, Westerly Police Chief Richard Silva said the bicyclist’s injuries were serious.
The vehicle had been described earlier as a Ford truck or SUV with a model year sometime in the 1990s, with damage expected on the passenger’s side – including the possibility of the passenger’s side mirror being missing.
Two surveillance videos police posted to their Facebook page showed a red pickup truck going down a two-lane street, in both cases going from left to right.
Anyone with information about the truck is asked to call Westerly Police Det. John Riley at (401) 348-6143.
