South County

RICHMOND, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after a man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a crash Thursday afternoon in Richmond.

The crash involving a sedan and a pickup truck happened around 3:30 p.m. on Kingstown Road in front of Richmond Elementary School.

Police said the driver of the pickup truck lost control of his vehicle while rounding the corner and hit the oncoming sedan, which spun off the roadway and into the school’s front driveway entrance.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, according to police. The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash.

Police said it appears everyone involved was wearing seat belts.

The circumstances leading up to the crash, including what caused the driver of the truck to lose control of his vehicle, are now under investigation.
