Elderly woman hit, killed by garbage truck outside Narragansett Community Center

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — A 90-year-old woman from South Kingstown died Monday after she was struck by a garbage truck outside the Narragansett Community Center on Mumford Road.

The woman was hit near the front door around 11:30 a.m., according to Narragansett police. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman’s name is being withheld pending family notification.

Staff members at the community center say she was visiting the facility at the time.

Police said the incident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

Eyewitness News has reached out to the company that owns the truck, Narragansett Rubbish Removal, for comment and we’re waiting to hear back.
