Fire at Narragansett industrial building under investigation

South County

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — Fire officials are trying to determine the cause of a fire at an industrial building in Narragansett Thursday afternoon.

Crews responded to the three-alarm fire on Celestial Drive just after 3 p.m. The building is home to several businesses, including an auto-body shop and a security business.

Narragansett Fire Chief Scott Partington said no one was injured in the fire, but pieces of equipment and several vehicles inside the building were heavily damaged.

Partington said the fire was difficult to contain since the building is made of steel.

“The heat and the gasses and all the smoke tend to get trapped in these buildings,” he said.

The building is a total loss, according to Partington. He said Narragansett police are working to contact the owners of the vehicles that were damaged in the fire.

Partington said one person was inside the building at the time of the fire but they got out safely.

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
