NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — Investigators on Friday returned to the scene of a large industrial fire in Narragansett as they work to pinpoint its origin.

Town fire officials say the two-story, 6,000 square foot building on Celestial Drive is considered a total loss, along with its contents and 20 vehicles that were being stored out back.

The facility, which houses a fire alarm and security business and an extension of Flynn Automotive and Tire, was occupied when the fire broke out Thursday afternoon but all workers were able to escape to safety.

Crews from several surrounding communities responded to provide mutual aid, according to fire officials.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is now being investigated by the local and state fire marshals and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). At this time, it’s not considered suspicious.

In a Facebook post Thursday night, the owners of Flynn Automotive said everyone is safe and the shop’s main location would open as normal Friday morning.

Vinny Flynn told Eyewitness News on Friday that he was alerted to the fire and initially tried to put it out himself, but it spread too fast.

Flynn said of the 20 vehicles involved in the fire, three were theirs, three belonged to customers and the remaining 14 were slated to be recycled.
