NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Two children were rushed to the hospital after they were struck by a car Sunday night on Devils Foot Road in North Kingstown, according to police.
Gina Myers, the victims’ aunt, told 12 News the boy and girl, ages 12 and 15, had left her home on Merrill Lane just after 10 p.m. to walk back home. A few minutes later, she got a call from them, saying they had been hit by a vehicle.
The two kids were taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital with significant injuries, according to Myers. Police said both were expected to be released on Monday.
Myers said the kids had to walk on the grass along the roadway due to flooding in the area of Kingstown Crossings. She claims the woman who hit them told the children that the police were on the way before driving off.
Tire marks at the scene appear to show a vehicle veered off the road onto the grass.
Police said the suspect vehicle was impounded and they have a person of interest, but no arrests have been made at this time.
The incident remains under investigation.
