Family and friends gather to remember young father killed in motorcycle crash in Taunton

TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Candles and flowers line the sidewalk on School Street in Taunton, where a memorial was held Sunday night to remember a young father who lost his life in a motorcycle crash at that very area.

Family members told Eyewitness News, the 24-year-old who died was Brendan Darosa.

“God bless the family, that’s all I can say,” James Devlin said.

Throughout the day Sunday, the memorial grew.  What started as some flowers and a hat turned into dozens of candles.  Family and friends said it was too soon to talk on camera, but called him a family man and a great, great man.

His fiance shared a photo of the two of them with their daughter.  They are also expecting another a baby.

“It didn’t look good.”  James Devlin was at his daughter’s house on School Street Saturday night right across the street from where the crash happened.

As soon as he heard it, he went outside and called 911.

“I actually heard a thump, when I come out all I saw was debris,” Devlin added. “It was just a maze of I don’t know, dirt and bike parts were everywhere in the streets.”

Taunton Police said a car driven by an 18-year-old woman and the motorcycle were driving in the same direction on School Street.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney, the driver of the motorcycle attempted to pass the car on its left side while the car was turning left.

The driver of the motorcycle was taken to Morton Hospital and later pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation by Taunton Police Detectives and the Massachusetts State Police.
