NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A man prosecutors said had a lengthy history of drug trafficking was convicted last week of selling large amounts of heroin.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said 40-year-old Richard Ribeiro was sentenced to six to eight years in state prison after a jury found him guilty of charges related to a 2016 arrest.

According to prosecutors, Ribeiro was trafficking heroin out of an apartment on Davis Street. Detectives searched the apartment on February 25, 2016, following an investigation.

Prosecutors said detectives found more than 37 grams of heroin in Ribeiro’s bedroom, along with Percocets and Tramadol.

Police said they also seized packaging materials, a digital scale and thousands of dollars in cash.
