Fairhaven Police and SEMLEC (Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council) responded to a home where a man barricaded himself inside.
Just after 8:30 a.m., Fairhaven police were trying to make contact with a person living at 18 Winsegansett Ave. They were then turned away by a resident who barricaded himself inside the home.
SEMLEC units called to the scene along with Fairhaven police helped to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion.
Lt. Kevin Kobza with the Fairhaven police tells Eyewitness News, the display of force looked dramatic, but having the extra resources there makes it safer for the person involved.
- SEMLEC is also employed in searching for missing people throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. Read how they train for that task.
The man, who was alone inside the home, was not in possession of any firearms. He was taken into custody around 12:30 p.m.
Fairhaven police say they had reason to believe the man may have been armed with a knife.
His name is not being released at this time, and there is no threat to the community.
