SOMERSET, Mass. (WPRI) — A Portsmouth man died early Wednesday morning after his car was hit by a wrong-way driver on I-195, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The victim has been identified as Adriaen Thibeault, 21.

The crash took place around 3:45 a.m. in the area of Exit 10 (old Exit 4A) in Somerset. Police said the preliminary investigation showed a 50-year-old Bristol man was driving in the wrong direction on the highway when he hit Thibeault’s vehicle head-on, causing it to burst into flames.

Thibeault was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bristol man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, according to police.

Travel lanes were closed for about five hours, but have since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
