Police: New Bedford woman killed in fiery crash

MIDDLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after a deadly single-car crash that occurred on I-495 in Middleboro Friday afternoon.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, a 32-year-old New Bedford woman was driving when she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to crash into a tree in the median.

Police said after the car crashed, it burst into flames. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed two lanes on I-495 for four hours as they worked to clear the crash. As of 5:30 p.m., all lanes were reopened.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
