NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after an “improvised explosive device” was found on the porch of a New Bedford home Friday morning.

Officers responded to a home on Mosher Street just before 7 a.m. for reports of a suspicious device.

Police said X-ray imaging was used to analyze the item, which was confirmed to be an improvised explosive device.

The device was detonated by Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad nearby without incident after the immediate area was evacuated.

It’s unclear at this time who created the device and left it on the porch.

Anyone with information regarding the device or its origin is urged to contact the New Bedford Police Department by calling (508) 991-6300 ext. 1.
