DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — A man accused of robbing an elderly woman of her purse outside a Dartmouth bank is now in custody after an off-duty officer caught him stealing a purse from another woman the next day.
Police confirmed Tuesday evening that they had arrested Miguel Brasil, less than three hours after identifying him as a suspect in the incident Monday morning at the Citizens Bank branch on Dartmouth Street.
Brasil, 40, allegedly pushed the 76-year-old woman to the ground while she was exiting the bank and made off with her purse. The victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Police said an off-duty officer saw Brasil steal a purse from a 72-year-old woman outside of a Rite Aid, which is located down the street from the Citizens Bank where the first incident occurred. When the officer tried to stop him, police said Brasil fled the scene by car, leading officers on a brief pursuit.
According to police, the pursuit ended when Brasil crashed into an officer's cruiser, causing substantial damage.
Brasil faces several charges in connection with both incidents.
