FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Police have identified the driver who was killed in a gasoline tanker crash on Route 24 Thursday morning.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, John Silva, 67, of Fairhaven was driving the tanker when it rolled over and hit a second vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash caused massive traffic backups in the area as crews worked to clean up the spilled gasoline and remove the tanker from the roadway.

Police said the driver of the vehicle that was hit by the tanker, a 32-year-old man, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and was last listed in stable condition.
