REHOBOTH, Mass. (WPRI) — Crews hoisted a giant broadcast tower up at the WPRI transmitter in Rehoboth Friday to comply with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) nationwide spectrum repack.
The new tower is more than 80 feet tall and weighs more than 8,500 pounds. WPRI was required to install a new antenna and modify the tower structure as part of the spectrum repack.
Anyone using an antenna to watch TV for free will now need to rescan their TV to continue watching the channel. Rescanning a TV finds all available channels in the area and requires no new equipment.
Cable and satellite viewers are not affected. WPRI 12’s rescan day is Aug. 2 at 12:30 p.m.
