FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — For the first time in decades, a new brewery is getting ready to open in Fall River.

Craft beer has been a favorite of Matt Wilson and his family for as long as he can remember.

“How we do things around holidays, and how we celebrate,” Wilson said.

Now, Wilson and his brother Miles are taking that passion and turning it into a full-time job.

“Now, it’s just a year-round learning process… and love,” Wilson added.

The brothers brewed up the idea to start their own business. When Canned Heat opens, it will be the first time beer has been commercially brewed in Fall River since Enterprise Brewery Co. closed its doors in 1963.

The new brewery will have several homemade brews on tap.

“We have a 15-barrel system, so we’re capable of making upwards of 400 gallons of beer at a time,” Matt Ellis, Canned Heat’s head brewer, said.

Canned Heat will also allow local food trucks and vendors to showcase their products as well.

“Depending on what day you come, you’re going to get a different product,” Ellis explained.

Ellis said even those who have been named the designated driver can get a drink, too.

“Hoppy water, and also this cold brew nitro coffee we’ll have available,” Ellis said, noting that these options are non-alcoholic.

When asked why the brothers chose to bring craft beer back to Fall River, Wilson said it’s all for the people.

“We appreciate the people very much,” he said. “Kind of really fit the bill as far as cool edge, edgy style, the beautiful scenery that we have that kind of came along with this possibility here.”

Canned Heat opens its doors on Oct. 5. Those who are interested in visiting the brewery can see what’s on tap Thursdays and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 9 p.m.
