New Bedford stabbing suspect turns himself in

New Bedford Amanda Avenue stabbing

A man suspected of stabbing a New Bedford woman Monday morning has surrendered to the authorities.

According to New Bedford police, the woman was stabbed multiple times at an apartment complex on Amanda Avenue. Police said the attack was not random and the suspect knew the victim.

Elias Centeio, 37, of New Bedford, turned himself in Friday at Third District Court after police issued a warrant for his arrest.

Centeio was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault to murder, mayhem and home invasion.

The motive for the attack and the the current condition of the victim are unknown at this time.
