Stabbing investigation underway in Rehoboth

REHOBOTH, Mass. (WPRI) — A Middleboro man faced a judge Monday after he allegedly stabbed another man in Rehoboth over the weekend.

Jared Canto, 19, was arraigned Monday on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and ordered held pending the results of a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Thursday.

Police allege Canto stabbed a 19-year-old man inside a home on Purchase Street.

Officers responded around 1 a.m. Sunday to a report that a man may have fallen on glass, according to police, and they arrived to find the victim bleeding heavily from several stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.

The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where at last check he was in critical condition, police said.
