FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Fall River police say they have a suspect in custody after a man was injured in a stabbing Sunday night.

Police said they responded to Plymouth Avenue just before 8 p.m. and found the victim suffering from a stab wound to the torso. He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in serious condition, but is currently stable and conscious.

After determining that Chance Costa was the suspect, officers located and arrested him after a foot chase, according to police.

Costa, 24, was preliminarily charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing substantial injury and armed assault to murder.

Police said he and the victim are acquaintances, but it’s unclear at this time what led up to the violence.
