SEEKONK, Mass. (WPRI) — Police have arrested a man who led officers on a high-speed pursuit through several Southeastern Massachusetts communities Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Seekonk Police Department, officers were trying to conduct a traffic stop on I-195 when the driver took off.
The officers chased the vehicle into Fall River before calling off the pursuit, which police said reached speeds of close to 100 mph.
Once in Fall River, the driver got off the highway and nearly crashed before getting back on the highway going the wrong way, police said.
Fall River police got set up on the highway in an effort to catch the suspect but he corrected his direction and took an exit in Westport.
Rhode Island State Police and Westport Police were eventually able to stop the vehicle, which had Florida license plates, near Main Road. Eyewitness News was on scene as the male driver was taken out of the vehicle and into custody.
Police said there were three people inside the car but only the driver, who had a warrant out for his arrest, is facing charges at this time.
The incident remains under investigation.
